Tack gallery

Here I show some tack I have made. I'm not good in this, but I want the tack to work like real, and sometimes I design own things that haven't been seen in 1:1 scale at all.

I 'specialize' mostly in halters, bridles, ropes, martingals and sometimes harnesses - well, only one thing I got sure I can't get along with are saddles... I have tried, and they look nothing like they should, and don't even talk about the working; I have no idea why it's so difficult to learn how a saddle is built.

History (shortly...): I started tackmaking in 2013, when I bought some jewellery stuff to try. It was good then, but I did simple pieces. Then the shop where I bought those, ended, and I had no idea how to continue; until I got leather pieces and wire by asking and buying (you know, asking never kills).

For long time tongue buckles looked too weird and difficult for me to make, but at about 2016 or something, I started putting them to halters; it just looks better than the sliding buckles!

At 2017 I got crazy with bridles and took some kind of skill-jump, I think, as I just realised how to make them. Same with halters. Todays my traditional scale tack uses almost only tongue buckles, and I like to make things well adjustable.
...

Like in drawing, I am perfectionist in tackmaking too. I have made a lot, a lot of things, but most of that isn't so good, so I show less. And todays my biggest interest is traditional scale.

Only at 2017-2018 I've dared to start making personal tack for my models, mostly with deeper reasons (like Reizvoll who got his tack I've seen in a dream). I just need to make the pieces adjustable enough, I never try to really make the tack full-fitting until it's on the horse.

Traditional scale tack got it's own page at 2018, and can be found here

STABLEMATE AND SMALLER
This is so small scale that I get mostly crazy with it, ans can't do much tack. Also, I haven't so focused on these, although I maybe could like to.

Halters, bridles, ropes:

That leather was thinned to same as paper, and it still looks rough.

That yellow thing is sewing thread...

Paper-thin leather bridle with working tongue buckle. The wire is nicely thin but weak, and the bridle broke already. I have no idea what materials/techniques to use for this scale at the future.

LITTLE BIT
Most of my tack is made for LB scale, and there for Schleich, since they're the most familiar to me and I have collected them a lot for many years. Worse part is that most of this tack is bad and doesn't deserve to get photographed.

Ropes:

Use for some dead curtains; just knots and metal pieces added.

Halters:

Fake leather halter made somewhere in 2013 when I started tackmaking.

Todays type of my Schleichs' personal halters; three pieces of leather, three jumprings and one hook, sometimes one buckle. The noseband is meant to be large and loose, while the crownpiece can be shorter. This kind of halters do exist in 1:1 scale, too, but they seem to be rare.

Once I improved and started to make common type of halters in Schleich scale. Now these look scary.

General leather halter.

My bad habit was to leave too long straps.

This is the best of my Schleich scale leather halters, except that the buckles are CLUMSY. Must retouch...

Paper halter; colored with a Copic marker and covered with painter's tape (whatever it is called in English).

Paper halter. The paper got varnished before cutting.

The best one of my paper halters, again with varnish to protect.

Bridles:

Old bridle, bad leather, clumsiness...

Newer bridle, yet a bit weird and rough, but works better. Paper-thin straps.

Same as above, but with different color. Very fragile.

Paper-thin leather, and straps as narrow as possible. It was NOT fun to make these! At the end I got the blue-tacks off and replaced those leather keepers with jumprings. Too long buckle pieces.

This is what that bridle above is todays - Savage adopted them, and as she has open mouth, I also added a mouthpiece. I so much want to put more parts to make the bridle more interesting, but, well, I think it then needs whole new bridle...

Saddles:

Harness:

Old pack harness, practically just own design (not saying it could be anything clever, ha).

Black harness, made about in... 2014? Got retouches a lot. The halter is the horse's own since I lost nerves with the bridle meant to fit that harness.

CLASSIC
My childhood. There tackmaking hobby started with this scale, as I made stupid halters and blankets for my toys (Grand Champions). I like classics, but I better use my precious materials for traditionals, since I have only couple of good looking classics (and one doll!).

Ropes:

Halters:

Old and rough halter with sliding buckles.

Newer leather halter with tongue buckles, very well working (and fitting).

Bridles:

Tried if I can do simple one-ear-bridle, because western. Fail.

English type bridle. OK otherwise but the leather didn't like the hole-punching.

Similar to the bridle above, this was originally made for a friend. I then thought that I don't want to irritate them with stupid leather, so I kept these myself... It just wasn't fun to work with that leather because everything broke and so.

I put more tack to the page when I finish it... And when I have photographed it, heh.
